RECENT SUCCESSES
On December 13, 2006, during trial in King County Superior Court, attorneys Bill Leedom and Tim Allen settled for $4.4 million a lawsuit against an excess commercial liability insurer. The insurer had refused to pay under its policy when its insured, a general contractor, had settled a personal injury case brought against it by a subcontractor's injured employee. Leedom and Allen represented an insurer who had contributed to the settlement of the case against the general contractor. Between this settlement and a prior bad faith settlement with the subcontractor's primary insurer (elsewhere in "Successes"), Leedom and Allen recovered $17.35 million of the $17.4 million settlement upheld as reasonable in Howard v. Royal Specialty Underwriting, Inc., 121 Wn. App. 372, 89 P.3d 265 (2004). This amount included the full $6 million their client had advanced toward the underlying settlement and attorneys fees and costs, with the balance going to the injured worker and her attorneys.
