9th Circuit upholds University of Washington School of Law admission program
Received unanimous decision from United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit upholding Bennett Bigelow & Leedom's trial court victory in favor of the University of Washington School of Law in Smith v. University of Washington, 392 F.3d 367 (9th Cir. 2004). In a challenge to the law school's admissions program, plaintiffs claimed that the law school impermissibly considered race as a factor in admissions. After seven years of litigation, in December 2004, the United States Court of Appeals of the Ninth Circuit issued a unanimous decision upholding the law school's admissions program. Mike Madden and Bruce Megard represented the law school.
