Associate Attorney (Mid-Level) - Seattle & Spokane
Bennett Bigelow & Leedom, P.S., a recognized leader in Health Care Law and Trial Practice, is searching to expand its team of highly-regarded and award-winning attorneys in its Seattle and Spokane offices. Specifically, the firm is interested in candidates who have experience and a focused interest in medical malpractice, personal injury, and insurance defense. The ideal candidate will have at least four years of practice experience with strong legal writing and analytical skills, demonstrated oral advocacy skills, and a commitment to work collaboratively with other attorneys, legal staff, administrative staff, and management. This is a full-time position with a hybrid remote option.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and representation to healthcare providers, hospitals, nursing facilities, product manufactures and academic medical centers.
- Research legal issues and medical topics, prepare and file briefs, motions, and other necessary judicial pleadings. Evaluate medical records, facilitate discovery process, and conduct depositions. Support trials.
- Participate in case management including strategy development.
- Develop, maintain, and strengthen relationships with internal and external clients.
- Provide direction, instruction, feedback, and supervision to associates and staff in a positive and collaborative working environment.
- Increase knowledge in medical malpractice and insurance defense law, monitor changes, and pursue continuing legal education.
- Accurately and promptly capture and record billable and non-billable work.
- Meet annual billable hours requirement of 1,850 hours.

Education and Experience
- Juris Doctor degree from accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law in the State of Washington.
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience in litigation. Medical malpractice, personal injury, or insurance defense experience preferred.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with ProLaw preferred.
Compensation and Benefits
- Compensation range of $135,000 – 165,000 annual salary, depending on location and experience. Annual bonus based on billable hours.

Legal Assistant - Spokane
Bennett Bigelow & Leedom, P.S., a recognized leader in Health Care Law and Trial Practice, is searching for a Litigation Legal Assistant for our Spokane office. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of practice experience with strong administrative skills and a commitment to work collaboratively with attorneys, legal staff, administrative staff, and management. This is a full-time position, primarily on site.
Responsibilities
Legal Support
- Proofread, finalize and file pleadings in federal, state, and appellate courts in fast-paced environment. Manage deadlines and rapidly changing priorities.
- Provide diligent case management support through calendaring, maintenance of data and contacts, coordination with clients and other parties, and timely records management in a team environment.
- Manage complex scheduling and calendar maintenance under rapidly changing circumstances in support of cases frequently leading to trial. Coordinate scheduling with clients, co-counsel, opposing counsel, experts, and witnesses under tight deadlines.
- Draft correspondence, notices of appearance, and other communications.
- Support docketing by reviewing for accuracy, adapting to team conventions, and backing up docketing entry as needed. Monitor case scheduling and maintain calendaring for discovery.
- Support trial preparation including gathering and organizing of records and coordinating the trail team activities.
- Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA requirements, policies and procedures.
- Provide administrative support for business and professional requirements including review and editing of client billings in accordance with client guidelines, registration for events or continuing education, opening and closing files, and making travel arrangements.
- Maintain professional demeanor under pressure.
Administrative Support
- Answer phones, log in and route incoming deliveries; process and distribute incoming mail; process outgoing mail; monitors and deliver facsimiles.
- Greet visitors; facilitate access for messengers.
- Assist with copy and scan projects including copying, collating, sorting, and preparing documents and reports for mailings and meetings.
- Monitor and restock kitchen supplies, beverages, office supplies, and shipping supplies; make coffee, maintain clean kitchen and run dishwasher.
- Prepare conference rooms for meetings, place signage for quiet areas, and maintain conference rooms and reception area.
- Assist with scheduling vendor meetings; send calendar invitations.
Required Skills
- At least 2 years of experience as a litigation legal assistant required; experience with medical malpractice or insurance defense preferred.
- Court filing experience and basic familiarity with local and state Washington Court Rules required.
- Proficiency with MS Office applications required; experience with ProLaw is preferred.
- Experience with complex scheduling is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with docketing preferred or completion of firm-provided training required within first 90 days of employment.

Compensation and Benefits
- Compensation range of $58,000-66,000 annual salary, depending on experience. Discretionary annual bonus.
- Paid time off (18 days per year, with one additional PTO day for each year of service, up to a total of 25 days of PTO accrual per year).
